Hello, my name is Claus Gunti. I am an art historian, writer and curator based in Lausanne, Switzerland.

I am a lecturer and researcher at the University of Art and Design Lausanne (ECAL). I previously taught contemporary art history and digital culture at the Universities of Lausanne, Neuchâtel and EPFL. I have been research fellow at Universität der Künste in Berlin and German Forum for Art History in Paris, and exhibition coordinator at Centre de la photographie Genève. I am co-founder of the photo-history journal Transbordeur, the book series Superscripte and the upcoming exhibition space Sludge. You can find more information and publications here.

My research and curatorial practice focus on conceptual and experimental photographic forms, materialised and computational photography and digital culture. My book Digital Image Systems came out in 2020. In 2021, I co-published the book Automated Photography, a research project also shown as an exhibition in Paris, Lausanne, Seoul, Tokyo and Bologna. In 2025, I curated Botanical Murmurs with Danaé Panchaud, which explored our often paradoxical relationship with plants.

Currently, I work on an upcoming book on photography and AI, and the research project Soft Photography launched at ECAL with Milo Keller† and Clément Lambelet, addressing emotional responses to computer-generated images.
